My maiden name was Colesby, and I have also been looking into my family t ree.
I have not traced as far back as you but during the couse of my searc h I found a copy of a death certificate for a John Colesby who died 6/12/ 1853 aged 2 years.
He was the son of Frederick Colesby (a pearl button maker) and Martha Col esby of 82 Flatchett Street Birmingham. Could he be connected to your Fr ederick ?
