OBITUARY: Post Register, Wed Feb 22, 2006
Rexburg - Norman Lee Thompson, 66, died Feb. 19, 2006, at his home o f mesothelioma cancer from exposure to asbestos.
He was born June 9, 1938 to Ved Mai Neilson & Norman Thompson. He gre w up in Chinook, Mont., and graduated from Chinook High School. He serve d in the U.S. Navy for four years.
He married Linda Bauer. They lived in Rexburg, where he helped foun Up per Valley Electric Inc. and eventually became sole owner. She preceded h im in death. On Feb 25, 1986, he married Pauline Leonard Maddox. Their ma rriage was solemnized in the Idaho Falls LDS Temple on Feb 25, 1987. He b ecame an electrical inspector for the State of Idaho.
He was a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Ladder-day Saints an d served in several calling, including temple officiator, finance clerk a nd high councilman at Brigham Young University-Idaho.
He enjoyed boating, fishing, camping and owrking with wood. Norman lef t happy memories that will be cherished by his family and all who knew hi m, including his grandchildren, Mindy, Brittney, Ashley and Jared Wagner ; Evan and Hailey Gillies; Fhonwen Janssen; and Stewart, Dillon, Bridger , Kassidy and Tyne Maddox.
Survivors include his wife, Pauline; children, Joyce Waner, Darcy Gill ies Janssen, Daniel Maddox and Dean Maddox; 13 grandchildren; and sibling s, Steven Thompson, Richard Thompson, Jolene Nickey, Iretta Hanson, Dian e McKay and Laura Jones. He was preceded in death by his wife, Linda; hi s parents; and a sister, Debbie Chandler.
Funderal services will be at 11 a.m. Thursday, Feb 23, at the Rexbur g North LDS Stake Center, 314 E. Second North. The family will visit wit h friends from 6:30 p.m. to 8 p.m. today at Flamm Funderal Home in Rexbur g and from 10 a.m. to 10:45 a.m. Thursday before services at the church . Burial will be in Ririe-Shelton Cemetery with military rites.
